The Azores Islands are in the Atlantic Ocean about 900 miles West of Portugal. The nine main islands are São Miguel, Santa Maria, Terceira, Pico, Faial, São Jorge, Graciosa, Flores and Corvo. They are divided into three districts named after their capitals: Ponta Delgada (on São Miguel), Angra do Heroísmo (on Terceira), and Horta (on Faial).
